Member for Barwon Roy Butler has announced that twelve Sporting Clubs will share in more than $92,000 in funding thanks to the 2019-20 Local Sport Grant Program.

Mr Butler said the funding will allow these Clubs to improve their facilities and remove some hurdles for people who are thinking about getting involved with their local club.

“One of the biggest barriers to people getting involved in sport is the upfront costs of registration fees, uniforms, and equipment – a number of the Clubs have successfully applied for funding that will allow them to substantially reduce the cost for players,” said Mr Butler.

“Drought in our communities has rocked our local sporting clubs, now COVID-19 has put the season on hold, this funding will give our teams a chance at bouncing back from the hiatus and getting more people involved in their game.

“Sport in our communities is so much more than a game on the weekend. These clubs are essential in bringing people together – they’re a vital link in the social fabric of our communities.”
