Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane used her Budget Reply speech to announce support for more renewable energy investment in Far West NSW, in line with calls from the Member for Barwon, Roy Butler.
Mr Butler is pleased to see momentum building for more investment around Broken Hill.
“A Renewable Energy Zone in Far West NSW makes sense on several different levels,” said Mr Butler.
“There’s plenty of sun around Broken Hill, and the wind blows through more of the evening than it does further east.
“Renewable energy is much less disruptive on the large grazing properties in the Far West than it is on the smaller cropping lands in the east,” said Mr Butler. “Many graziers in the Far West have such large properties that they could host an entire wind farm and rarely see the turbines.”
“Plus, the revenue from these projects is appreciated by graziers during the dry years that are common in the Far West.”
Mr Butler has already held discussions with the Opposition Leader about what she would do if elected in March next year.
“The Liberal Party has a steep hill to climb to get back into power at the next election,” said Mr Butler. “But you never know what’s going to happen.”
“It’s great to see that Ms Sloane is already consulting widely, and I appreciate her backing my calls for more investment around Broken Hill,” said Mr Butler.
