New base stations in Barwon - a start
23 July, 2021
In 2019, my team and I began working on getting better connectivity to our region. These issues continue to affect our primary producers, small businesses and really, anyone who lives in Barwon.
In 2020, I wrote to each of the Local Government Areas in the electorate, asking for information on known black spots affecting their communities. I asked my constituents to contact my offices and tell me their issues with connectivity. Your response was outstanding!
I raised all this with the Deputy Premier, the Federal member for Parkes and former Minister for Regional Health, Regional Communications and Local Government, Mark Coulton and the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, Paul Fletcher.
On multiple occasions I informed the NSW Parliament about connectivity in the bush, through Questions on Notice, the delivery of a Private Members Statement and a Public Interest Debate. I'll keep raising it until we have the connectivity we deserve.
Today we’ve heard that 5 new base stations will be funded in Barwon under the Mobile Blackspot Program Round 5A.
The locations are:
- Barrier Creek Highway - Barrier Highway (Between Broken Hill and Little Topar Hotel)
- Barrier Highway - Barrier Highway (Between Canbelego and Hermidale)
- Glenora Barrier Highway
- Hermidale
- Little Topar
While it doesn’t solve all the mobile blackspot issues we are aware of in Barwon, it’s a start!
