We, the undersigned, believe country communities should have a right to appeal decisions and seek compensation when racing stewards cancel country races without inspecting the track within reasonable time frames or giving them follow-up opportunities to make the track safe.  Country races are important social occasions that are often a highlight of the year and encourage connection amongst local people. They are also important financial opportunities, as the events bring people to the region from across the state to spend money in local businesses. Recently, the Louth races were called off before dawn on race day despite the track then drying out in the morning sun before the first scheduled race. We call on the NSW government to intervene to allow communities to appeal Racing NSW decisions and seek compensation when races are cancelled unnecessarily.
