National Parks Survey
More and more pastoral stations in western NSW are being bought by the government and transformed into National Parks.
Local people are concerned that these purchases deprive communities of productive businesses. The former stations become breeding grounds for feral animals that invade neighbouring properties. Local councils also suffer as these new National Parks don’t pay rates.
With more National Park purchases on the horizon, Roy believes that local communities deserve better.
Roy wants to hear from you about what you’ve observed and the changes you’d like to see.
He will use your feedback to develop solutions. We should be able to get better environmental outcomes without contributing to the feral animal problem and without hollowing out local economies.

A: Ulah has had a wetland identified on the property .This recognition has been postponed for 12 months to around June,2026 , next year, due to opposition of its title and why it is necessary. The protection prohibits development within a 1.4 km radius of it.that includes our homestead and surrounding building and some of the irrigation. It is not retrospective ,however, application is required for any alteration. In my opinion, this is totally unnecessary as parameters are already set in place. It duplicates what is there already. It poses a threat to be included in some government offset program without any acknowledgment that the property belongs to our family and has cared for it admirably since 1882. Or, some other underlying agenda ,who knows . It is very intimating to have this action hovering over our property . I am feeling the heavy hand of government daily and it is not much fun to say the least! An email has already been sent to advise me the zoning has already been changed from rural RU1 to zone D.

Alex Mcleod answered 2025-09-23 06:41:58 +1000Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
A: The mass waste of tax payers money needs to be stopped. Parks are locking up production low environmental impact businesses. They create breeding ground for feral animals along with booming populations of native animals which go into neighbouring properties and destroy pasture en mass! As a young farmer I have been priced out of the market purely from national parks!

Will Murray answered 2025-09-23 06:04:53 +1000Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
A: Stop the nonsense, national parks purchases are killing our local communities, mismanaged large areas of land that are breeding grounds for pests and any farmers who share a boundary with them are burdened with that mismanagement
