National Parks Survey
More and more pastoral stations in western NSW are being bought by the government and transformed into National Parks.
Local people are concerned that these purchases deprive communities of productive businesses. The former stations become breeding grounds for feral animals that invade neighbouring properties. Local councils also suffer as these new National Parks don’t pay rates.
With more National Park purchases on the horizon, Roy believes that local communities deserve better.
Roy wants to hear from you about what you’ve observed and the changes you’d like to see.
He will use your feedback to develop solutions. We should be able to get better environmental outcomes without contributing to the feral animal problem and without hollowing out local economies.

Sarina Sharp answered 2025-09-23 08:06:58 +1000Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
A: The people making these decisions sit in glass towers in Sydney. They have no clue how hard it is for people to live and work in remote parts of the state with little or no infrastructure spending going on. The millions being “wasted” on buying these huge tracts of land could have gone to more practical uses like improving public transport, reinstating our passenger rail services and other basic needs to keep towns alive. It’s all very well buying up these massive properties but unless the government also puts money aside to maintain these huge national parks into the future, it should not be done. At the moment, all that’s happening is for these parks to become huge breeding grounds for wild pigs, feral cats wild dogs and other pests. This is course negates their use as environmentally protected areas. In other words, money down the drain – literally.

Kevin Milne answered 2025-09-23 08:00:19 +1000Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
A: The lock it and leave mentality of NP’s is dangerous and contradictory to it’s purpose leaving it to burn in massive bush fires due to lack of controlled fuel reduction burns, the damage caused to native fawner and flora due to miss management of invasive feral species and the exclusion of responsible recreational hunters and the loss of prim agricultural land to NP’s at the same time as loosing prim land to do called renewables projects will continue to reduce Australia ability to be self sufficient and more reliant on imported inferior products and produce. Australia has the best agricultural land producing the best most desirable produce we should be focusing on strengthening this sector of our country and economy not destroying it
